Helen began her comedy career in 2003 while she was living in Glasgow. It was grey, cold, wet, she was chain-smoking cheap cigarettes, while drowning herself in pints of beer and whiskey... something had to give! Her first gig was at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival where she managed to blurt out 5 minutes of funny about contemporary art, the audience laughed - she was hooked.

She returned to Australia and entered Triple J's Raw Comedy competition in 2004, where on her 6th gig she became joint winner of the Victorian State Final and zoomed through to the Raw Comedy National Final.

From Raw she's gone forth and performed in many weird and wonderful places. Another highlight in 2004 was being chosen in the final four of 2Day FM's 'Australian Comedy God' competition in Sydney, where she got to perform in front of four fabulous judges - Judith Lucy, Kaz Cooke, Peter Hellier and Rove.

Since then she has had many gigs and has featured on 'Champagne Comedy' and 'The Comic Box' on Channel 31 and written articles for Beat and Inpress magazines. In 2005 she performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival where she was one of four new Australian comics selected to perform in 'The Comedy Zone', a festival run show that showcases some of Australia's best new talent.

2005 ended on a big fabulous high, as Helen featured on the ABC's new Arts and Culture show - 'Vulture', on Tuesday nights. She was a regular panellist, alongside publisher Michael Williams and literary critic Peter Craven, with the fabulous host Richard Fidler.

You can frequently find Helen around the Melbourne comedy spots - she's the one with the loudest laugh, wearing black and outrageous earrings, with a sparkling wit and a bucket of Gin and Tonic in hand.

On top of stand-up comedy and television stints, Helen's day job is Program Coordinator at the National Gallery of Victoria, where she has coordinated the public events for exhibitions such as; The Impressionists, Dutch Masters and Bill Henson.

In 2003 she worked at the Australian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and has previously worked at Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Museums Australia, The Victorian Arts Centre, The Victorian College for the Arts and Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces.

Helen completed her honours degree at The University of Melbourne in Art History, with a thesis exploring 'The role of humour in contemporary art.'
